Dawson Creek & District Hospital

Project Description

The Dawson Creek and District Hospital Replacement Project will deliver a new, state-of-the-art healthcare facility located within Treaty 8 territory—the traditional and ancestral lands of the Beaver, Cree, Saulteau, Sicannie (Sikanni), and Slavey peoples. This new hospital will provide comprehensive medical services to a diverse population, including the communities of Dawson Creek, Pouce Coupe, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, Fort St. John, Hudson’s Hope, and Fort Nelson.

Additionally, it will serve the surrounding First Nations communities: Blueberry River First Nation, Doig River First Nation, Fort Nelson First Nation, Halfway River First Nation, Prophet River First Nation, Saulteau First Nations, West Moberly First Nations, as well as the communities of Kelly Lake. The facility will also support Métis, Inuit, and urban Indigenous populations residing throughout the Peace Region within Treaty 8 territory.

The new hospital will consist approximately 24,500 square metres (263,000 square feet) and will include 70 inpatient beds—an increase of 24 beds compared to the existing facility. The emergency department will also expand, increasing from 10 to 15 treatment spaces. The hospital will continue to offer a wide range of services, including surgical procedures, chemotherapy, ambulatory care, radiology, clinical support, and pharmacy services.
